This is video #076 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/okI6kEVXZPw

After their preparations in the previous video, the party enters Psaro's Mountain and finds Psaro the Manslayer. Uh oh, he's starting to look a lot like Estark.

Many final bosses have two or three forms. Psaro has seven forms that he evolves through. The first form is pretty basic. It looks like a reddish version of Estark. Psaro will generally attack twice with his huge, overgrown swords. The basic strategy is to attack with Heorot, Alena, and Ragnar while healing with the Sage's Stone on Meena. It also helps to use Kabuff with Kiryl and have Borya cast Oomph on the physical attackers.

In his second form (time index 4:03), Psaro will dispense with his right arm. He will attack once per round. Although his attacks are stronger, this form should not be any harder than the original form.

In his third form (time index 6:08), he will get rid of his other arm. Psaro will start using group attacks like Sizzle. It is a good idea to have Meena use Insulatle to reduce the damage from these attacks. Also, during this form only, he will use Whack, which has a chance to kill a party member. If this happens, the party should use an Yggdrasil Leaf or Kiryl's Kazing spell to restore the blighted party member; Zing is just too unpredictable. If Psaro uses Buff on himself, Heorot can use the Zenithian Sword as an item to dispel the Buff.

Transforming to his fourth form (time index 8:48), Psaro will actually lose his head! This is no problem for him, though, as another head appears in his abdomen, and he turns green. Very weird. As before, he will use group attacks, so Insulatle is a good buff to have. During this round, and this round only, he will meditate to restore his HP, which makes this round longer than it should be. Fortunately, his bite attack is not too damaging, especially if it hits the hero. He can also dispel the party's buffs with a Disruptive Wave, so Meena should keep applying Insulatle when needed.

In his fifth form (time index 14:06), Psaro will grow a new pair of arms. His main damage will still come from his group attacks, so the party should keep Insulatle up. His physical attacks are a little stronger, so Kabuff would not be a bad idea. Fortunately, he will no longer use meditation to heal himself, and he will stop using the Disruptive Wave for a while.

When he gets to his sixth form (time index 19:23), Psaro's legs will get longer. He will use a stomp attack now. However, the breath attacks are still the worst, so keep up with the Insulatle. No major changes here.

When he transforms to his seventh and final form (time index 23:32), Psaro will grow a new head, and he will gain a few horns. This is by far his most dangerous form. His physical attacks are stronger. In addition to his flame breath attack, he now has an even stronger ice breath attack. Worse, he will dispel the party's buffs with a Disruptive Wave attack. It is important to keep Kabuff and Insulatle up during this fight. Here is where it is important for the hero to know Omniheal. Also, keep in mind that Kiryl's Multiheal is stronger than the Sage's Stone's heals. Having enough Magic Waters and Prayer Rings will help the party stay alive during this stage of the fight. Around Level 37, I like to play this one defensively.

It is possible to do this battle around Level 33 or so, but it is a lot tougher. Especially if the hero does not know Omniheal yet and Kiryl does not know Kazing.

Thanks for watching!
