Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Post Game | Finale: The True Menace Responsible
After so much trouble, so much tribulation, it comes to this. This is the finale to the post game for Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen.
With Psaro in our party, we head for Diabolic Hall. It's then we encounter Aamon. Wait Aamon? Didn't we kick his butt back in Part 19? It turns out he survived and was in fact the true antagonist. He was responsible for allowing the humans to find and kill Rose. Psaro doesn't take this well but Aamon vows to surpass Psaro as the true Master of Monsters. You know what this means right? Boss fight.
Aamon is the true final boss of Dragon Quest IV. Unlike Psaro, who was a 7-phase fight, this one is a 4-phase battle. It's also exclusive to the later remakes of DQ4 aka PS1, DS, mobile. You need Psaro in your party to do the fight and if you were able to get all his gear and level him up enough to the early 50s, this fight isn't hard.
Aamon has access to powerful magic and attacks. He can even use disruptive wave to negate your buffs. Focus on buffing your party first with spells like Kabuff and Oomph. Having Psaro and Borya use Oomph to boost your attackers is going to be a boon. If you have Kiryl in your party, you can have him be set for support. Focus on Solo and Psaro using physical attacks. From Phase 2 onwards, Aamon will attack twice per turn and he will have damaging attacks that can cripple your party. Should that happen, have Solo use Omniheal and Kiryl use Multiheal. If you have a Sage's Stone, use that too. By doing this, you can fully heal your party in a single turn.
Phase 4 is when you really should be worried as he has access to devastating attacks such as C-C-cold Breath, Lullab-Eye and even Magic Burst. Magic Burst is devastating as he can wipe your party out if you are not prepared. He follows up with Evil Prayer to recover all his MP. It's a tough battle but not an impossible one. Eventually Aamon will fall and he will finally taste sweet defeat.
With Aamon defeated, the ending for Dragon Quest IV continues as normal. The only difference is that we get an added scene of Rose and Psaro together. He honestly deserves a happy ending, all things considered.
I already provided my final thoughts on the game and I do so again here. However, I also talk about something that has been gnawing away at me. Basically, Enix was planning to bring a PS1 remake of Dragon Quest IV to the West in 2002. But it never happened because the developer Heartbeat ceased video game operations. However, there is more to it than that and the last part of this video talks about it because my god, it's a lot bigger than that. Believe me. Once you watch this video, you will be shocked over the reasons why we never got this game. And even if we did, guess what... had Enix sought out another developer and released as planned, it would have bankrupted them. It gets worse when you also learn that had Enix closed the doors, the merger between Square & Enix would not have happened. Mind blown.
