This is video #120 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video contains commentary. To view the non-commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/a6XWOFr4C2s

Just outside the entrance to the king's chambers on floor L4 of Gittingham Palace, the party encounters the last of the Triumgorate, Lieutenant Goresby-Purrvis (time 0:50). He definitely is not a sweet-looking kitty-cat. He plans to 'purrforate' the party with his sword.

The main danger with Goresby-Purrvis is his critical attacks. They can deal in excess of 200 points of damage, which can wipe out weaker party members. Upward Slice can be quite irritating if it strikes; not only can it knock a party member off his or her feet, it can also do critical damage.

Boosting the party's defence is very important here. Boosting agility with Acceleratle will also help out a great deal. Zing and Moreheal are good spells to have available. Besides this, tension and powerful attacks will take care of this bad kitty.

At the end of the battle, Jessica reaches Mage Level 40 and learns Kacrack, an ice spell that targets all enemies (time 9:46). Goresby-Purrvis drops a Fizzle Foil upon his defeat.

A scene takes place after the battle (time 10:20).

After the scene, the party is free to move about (time 11:04). It may be a good idea to go back to the healing circle before heading into the throne room. Regardless, when the party enters the throne room, and crosses over yet another hole, they find Heorot's former master, Aquila, having an audience with King Godwyn (time 11:09). Aquila's motives for his actions are explained as he attempts to assassinate the king. Unfortunately, it does not turn out as he hoped. Poor Aquila. He should not have come alone.

After the scene, the party heads upstairs to confront the king (time 14:00). After a scene, Godwyn hopes to give them a right royal thrashing (time 14:31). King Godwyn will fling the ball from the top of his sceptre as Rhapthrone did, doing about 50 points of damage twice. As he did to poor Aquila, he can blast a party member with Kafrizz for over 100 points of damage. He can hit all party members with a Thin Air Attack for about 30 points of damage apiece. Nothing too complicated. As long as the party stays healed, things should go fine.

Another scene takes place once the battle is over (time 17:49). Unfortunately, it isn't over yet. Godwyn takes on an even ghastlier form (time 18:51). He will continue trying to roast party members with Kafrizz. He will now use a Disruptive Wave, an attack that removes positive status effects on the party. He will deploy a Magic Barrier to raise his magical defenses.

King Godwyn should not be too hard to take down, his propensity for Disruptive Waves notwithstanding. On this occasion, my party will forego boosting tension and strike with multiple-hit attacks. Mirror Armour can help a great deal by batting his Kafrizz spells back at him. Overall, I did not find him as difficult as Goresby-Purrvis.

When the battle is done, King Godwyn drops the Sceptre of Gitt, a definite upgrade for wand-wielders (time 23:39).

Another scene takes place when the battle is over (time 23:56). As he passes on, Aquila gives Heorot one last directive. And Stella gives more head-slaps than Gibbs...

So, the party heads back downstairs. When they reach L2, the seal blocking the northern door dissipates (time 27:10). It could be that the captive Celestrians are down there, eh?

Before heading through the newly opened door, the party can head down to L1 to restore HP and MP at the healing circle (time 27:38). How convenient!

Note that the electric field on the floor beyond the newly opened door will cause damage (time 28:39). Fortunately, it doesn't seem to cause nearly as much as the force fields in early games.

Beyond and downstairs, the party can actually save with the ghost of a priest on L1 (time 28:56). Definitely recommended, because the labyrinth underneath Gittingham Palace is a dungeon in itself with dangerous monsters.

Thanks for watching!
