In this video, we start the awesomeness of Dragon Quest V. Unlike my other recent playthroughs of DQ games, this time I will name my protagonist Madason, which is one of the names that his father will try to name him. I have a reason for this, which I will explain later.

After naming Madason, we view an opening scene with an anxious king and his loyal retainer (time 0:30). Some momentous events occur during this scene, one joyful and one not so much. After the scene, we get to hear the wonderful Dragon Quest theme in all its glory again.

After this preface, we find our youthful protagonist waking up aboard the Black Jack (time 5:44). Ah, what a cute little fella! He seems to be traveling with his father, Pankraz. Pankraz dismisses his dream, but I'm not so sure.

Anyway, after waking up, Madason can run around and explore the ship in true DQ fashion. In the drawers nearby, he can find a Medicinal Herb and a Seed of Resilience (time 6:33).

After climbing the stairs, he arrives on the deck (time 7:16). The ship theme in this game is absolutely beautiful. Among the port-side barrels, he can find a Medicinal Herb (time 7:23).

Up the starboard-side aft stairs, he can enter the deluxe suite despite the crew's admonitions (time 8:05). Another Medicinal Herb awaits in a wardrobe upstairs (time 8:30).

Up the port-side aft stairs, there is a quartet of barrels with a T 'n' T Ticket (time 9:32). T 'n' T is the name of Pachisi in this translation. The stairs nearby provide access to the galley and crew quarters. Among the 3x3 grid of barrels in the crew quarters, Madason can find a T 'n' T Ticket and a Medicinal Herb (time 10:33). The chests cannot be opened.

Back on the main deck, Madason checks out the captain's cabin (time 11:32). Evidently, the captain and Pankraz know each other from some time back.

After Madason has chatted with the captain and returned to the deck, the ship pulls into the port at Littlehaven (time 13:33).

As the captain requests, Madason returns to the cabin to deliver the news to Pankraz (time 15:44). Evidently, they've been away from home for quite some time.

For the next part, Madason talks to his dad at the gangway on the deck (time 16:43). He gets introduced to the shamelessly wealthy Rodrigo Briscoletti and his two daughters, Debora and Nera, who could not be more different in demeanor.

Madason can then head to the luxury suites and introduce himself to the girls (time 19:24). Remember how they react, because it may impact an important decision you will have to make later in the game.

He and his father will depart the ship in the next video.
