So begins, our adventures In the world of Dragon Quest VIII. I picked this game up over 10 years ago and never finished It, so I thought It was high time that I do.

Our story begins In Farebury, where our silent protagonist Is journeying with Yangus, a talking monster who we later learn is King Trode and a horse, who we later learn Is Princess Medea, King Trode's daughter. As It turns out, our hero and Yangus are travelling with the King and his daughter In an attempt to track down a Jester, who turned the aforementioned King and Princess Into a monster and a horse respectively. They arrive In the town of Farebury, where they plan to meet up with someone called Master Rylus, who may be able to help, unfortunately, after asking around, It's quickly apparent that Rylus recently passed away, so there goes that.

After pretty much looting the entire town, we have an encounter with Kalderasha, a local fortunate teller who seems to have fallen Into some rather hard times, when his fortunes started turning out to be false. Maybe It has something to do with the death of Rylus? No matter, because the villages finally notice King Trode and start a huge commotion because they think he's a monster, so the party ends up leaving town, but as they're about to depart, Kalderasha's daughter stops them and asks them to meet her at her place because she wants to ask her for a favor. Turns out that the reason Kalderasha's fortunes have been turning out to be false, Is because all he's using Is a glass ball, not a Crystal Ball and thus, she asks us to go find him one In a nearby cave behind a waterfall.

Maybe this has something to do with Rylus's death? we also can't ignore the fact that the jester was recently sighted In town too.
