Dragon Warrior III (NES) Playthrough Pt. 1 | Pergasus
This is part 1 of my playthrough of Dragon Warrior III for the NES. It contains all the grinding that I did and it goes all the way up to the Shrine of Dhama/Dharma or Alltrades Abbey for those of you who only got into Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior with the modern translations, or the Tower of Garuna/whatever that tower is called in the modern versions so that I have access to the Book of Satori/Words of Wisdom to change Isabelle into a Sage later on down the line.
So! Dragon Warrior III/Dragon Quest III, where to begin, oh where to begin... I suppose it's best to start by saying that this game is legendary, at least in Japan, in that so many people over there were skipping school and leaving work early just so that they could get their hands on this game, something that just plain didn't happen back in those days. In fact, so many people in Japan did this that it lead to a rumor that the Japanese government issued a ban on Dragon Quest games ever being sold on weekdays ever again. However, that's only a half-truth. Dragon Quest games would never again be sold on weekdays, but it was Enix themselves that came up with that rule, not the Japanese government.
Anyways, Dragon Quest III/Dragon Warrior III is the Dragon Warrior game that solidified Dragon Quest's popularity and as a mainstay franchise. It has all the things that make Dragon Quest games feel like Dragon Quest games. Every town you go to that's on a continent that isn't the one you started on has a sort of a problem of the week, most of them do, and it's your job as the hero of the story to solve these problems. Speaking of the world, the one of Dragon Quest III is actually OUR world, only with the continent of Aliahan being the only fictional continent in the game. Every other continent comes from the real-life planet earth.
Gameplay isn't that much different from Dragon Quest II/Dragon Warrior II, the battles are still in first-person on a black background, there are multiple enemy groups in each battle, usually, and you have to plan out your attacks because if you don't, then you're characters' attacks will hit nothing and be wasted for that round if they attack an enemy group which has lost all monsters in it. You still have to grind and build up levels so you can be out killing things for longer and to get GP or Gold Pieces so that you can afford better gear to help you stay out even longer in regards to killing things, and this is a constant presence throughout Dragon Quest III/Dragon Warrior III.
All things considered, Dragon Quest III/Dragon Warrior III is a classic game that absolutely deserves to be played, and you have numerous consoles that you can play it on. Here, I'm playing the NES version, but there are also versions of Dragon Quest III/Dragon Warrior III for the SFC, the GBC, smartphones, and the Switch, and with the HD-2D Remake, Steam, PS5, and Switch again. Honestly, any of these versions are better to play than the NES version, but the NES version is still very much playable today, and I can't recommend Dragon Quest III/Dragon Warrior III any more than I already am, and I'm recommending it at 100% of my recommending powers!
One last thing before I end the description here, though: I left the grinding in because when I've done playthroughs like this in the past before, people have fussed at me for claims that I cheated to do it. While I may cheat to speed up the grinding, I will never do it to make the game easier, just to speed up the tedium of the game and to alleviate some headache. Anyways, I might upload an alternate playthrough of Dragon Warrior III on the channel at a later date with the grinding axed out and with the amount of experience points and gold pieces gained after battle jacked up for those who want the grinding chopped out. I don't know, so tell me what YOU think!
Please note that this is the same exact video as the Dragon Warrior III Playthrough that I uploaded before, but Youtube's editing tools weren't working for me, so I decided to just edit the backup file that I had and reupload it. My apologies, all!
