Dreamcast MARK OF THE WOLVES by SNK - if I lose I change character - how far can I get?

I like this game in general, but in this Dreamcast version, in arcade mode, at around the fourth character usually, the AI turns into an input reading monster that will unashamedly always pick a safe counter to any move you make, and in some cases glitch it's own specials so that it can counter you.

is it worth the cash? with retro game prices on the increase the people need to know.
