If you wall backward, the player's clipping to the game's boundaries works differently, so you may be able to go outside the playable area more easily.

There's a trick with chairs. If you walk forward to a chair and sit on it at the same time, the player may go through the table. When you'll get up, you'll go through everything that's in front of you (a wall), so this trick can be exploited to go outside the game.
