Driver (PS1) Gameplay (PS3 Upscale) -No Commentary-
13In order to capture this footage, I had to play through the license test. Holy cow, I forgot how brutal that test is. I did eventually figure it out, but Driver's first test in the game was the preparation for the tough, but super addictive gameplay in the main game. This game is tough, but like later games like Smuggler's Run, and Stuntman, it always pulls you in to give the mission, "Just one more try."
Tough game, but the difficulty makes it all the more satisfying when you beat a difficult mission. There is a reason why this game is still beloved by PS1 fans to this day. It kicked your butt, but you still kept trying to beat it. Great game.
After GTA III came out, simple driving games like this mostly disappeared for a while, but I think today, you can play games like these, and not compare it to sandbox games, but take them for what they offer, verses what they don't. At the time of Driver, people were already wondering how GTA would be if it was set in a fully 3D world like Driver. Obviously, retro GTA influenced GTA III, but so did Driver. It was a bigger deal than most people remember it being.
I forgot how much I loved this game. Tough as nails, but man is it fun.
