Compared with older mods, The mods of today that are made for Duke Nukem 3D seem to focus more on Gameplay then on making new storylines with maps, But in all honesty there's no issue with gameplay changes as long as they play good, This mod https://www.moddb.com/mods/nuclear-showdown-redux was released in 2016 and is currently the only new mod to focus on gameplay with a few maps thrown in.
