Dwarf Fortress Tutorial - Part 4 - Game Interface and Basic Controls [DF2012]
Zemalf's Dwarf Fortress Tutorial, Part 4: Game Interface and Basic Controls (DF/tutorial).
In this video, you'll learn the basics of the game interface, how to move the view and look around, how to check what animals and creatures there are in the area, how to get an overview of the area, etc.
The fortress building and giving orders for the dwarves begins in the Part 5. I made this "game interface" video separate, so that this part can be skipped if you're already familiar with things like loo(k), (v)iew, (u)nit list, the status screen (z), how to restrict what food items are used for cooking and brewing, etc.

Beginner's Guide to Dwarf Fortress [DF2012] by TheZemalf. Step-by-step tutorial series on how to get started in the Fortress Mode, how to build your first fortress and how to help your dwarves survive.
This tutorial series follows along as I build an example fortress, showing what to do and how to do it. The series is meant for new Dwarf Fortress players, but I hope it'll be useful for all DF players, new and experienced alike.
