DYNAMITE DAN II - 128K (ZX SPECTRUM - FULL GAME)
Zeus presents Dynamite Dan II - 128k (Dr. Blitzen and islands of Arcanum) (un-emulated) for the zx spectrum, a true classic from the golden era of spectrum gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.
Year of release: 48k - 1986 / 128k - 2011
Well, this game is massive and i'm utterly amazed how it fitted into a 48k machine, if every level was multi-load i would understand but it's not, and many of us always dreamed of what a 128k version would have sounded like considering the 128k machine was released before this but sadly Mr. Bowkett never made one.
However, to my shock i discovered this mysterious 128k version a few days ago, released in 2011 by ILNX, this is the closest of what Rod Bowkett may have come up with if he had of done a 128k version.
You must guide Dan around each island, locate the record and play it in the jukebox, grab a can of fuel for your blimp and escape to the next island, 8 in all, after the 8th record has been played you must destroy the lab in the pressing plant (see question to Rod Bowkett below).
Graphics are the same as the 48k version which are just beautiful, the weird creatures that roam and fly about are just gorgeously drawn and amusingly animated, all 8 islands have their own wonderful looking creatures that only a mad man like Dr. Blitzen could come up with.
The music and tunes are the same in the 48k version but is now in 128k AY sound and this is what this game may have sounded like back in 1986 if it had been released for the 128k machine.
I do think though that it's slightly smoother than the 48k version, for instance when you collide into a baddie, the animation can stick for a split second, but in this 128k version it seems smoother.
If you grew up with this game back in 1986 then i would expect you to stick with the 48k version for memory and loyalty to the original sake, but if you've only just known about this game then i feel you should stick with this one as the sounds are more polished than it's 48k brother.
This was such a bloody FRUSTRATING game at times, you would do your best to just try to keep bombs or more importantly fuel in your grasp only for one of those white or purple BASTARDS to take them away and leave you stuck behind doors you can't open or no fuel to get off the island,...SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!
I believe i got to island 4 without cheats when i played the normal 48k version years ago.
Beware, if you collect the large pick-axe / corkscrew looking object on island 4, once you finish the level you will avoid island 5 and go straight to island 6, but maybe that's a good thing as island 5 (Monty Python level) is a SODDING dangerous island and best avoided!!!,...unless like me you are lucky enough to find the "walk on water" boots on island 5 (32:06) which prevents you from falling down endless gaps and drowning, but that's a serious gamble and decision you need to take before leaving island 4.
I have used the "infinite energy" and "no bombs or fuel needed" pokes so i could upload the entire game for your viewing pleasure and be able to hear all the 128k AY music and sounds.
I have also used a special poke which allowed me to control Dan when falling, in the original you just fall downwards, with the poke i can direct Dan while falling thus giving me less chance of falling into the water by landing on a platform,...this should have really been included in the original as it can be unfair not knowing where you are going to land when falling from big heights.

P.S: Rod Bowkett, if you ever see this please let us Dan fans know just what happened to the end result of this game.
Was this game completed in full by you for it's release date? Did it have an end sequence? Where is Blitzen's lab? Did you run out of programming time or spectrum memory because there is no ending :-(
These questions have gone unanswered for 27yrs and counting!
Hope all you Spectrum fans enjoy this upload.

Please note: NONE of my game uploads are emulated in any way whatsoever, they are 100% original recordings by myself taken directly from the original hardware the game was intended for, that way you know you're watching the real thing.
I will also always state weather i am using any cheats in the game, if not mentioned then i am not using any.
