If you play this stage as Sima Yi, you pretty much control the flow of the battle, and no matter what happens you won't lose unless you yourself die. The ambush only triggers when you near Jiang Wei so you can just do everything else first and then go fight Jiang Wei to trigger Zhuge Liang's ambush. You can also trigger Ma Su's ambush early by running through the center, cuz he triggers whenever Sima Yi enters that area.
