This video describes how you can go from being a lowly count in Sardinia to controlling the Kingdom of Sardinia with slow and controlled growth. Following a similar strategy to this, you can EASILY take the Kingdom of Italy, or even the EMPIRE of ITALIA shortly after!

To do this I first held the counties known as Cagliari eventually working my way up to the Dutchy of Sardinia and the Dutchy of Corsica and finally (for this episode at lease) forming the Kingdom of sardegna e corsica. The key here was to properly invest in buildings, specifically the silver mine. I discuss how to effectively manage succession, invest properly and more! I hope you enjoy!
