You will need a shield, a single item, and at least 1 of an item you want to duplicate.
Drop all of the item you want to duplicate then pick them up. This is so it makes the item appear in the last slot. The item has to be in the last slot to work.
Shield jump (ZL then X then A). While in the air pause the game. Hold the single item first then hold the item you want to duplicate. You can hold up to 4 of the item.
Now back out of the menu and the items drop to the ground. Pick them up and they will duplicate. Now repeat starting with dropping all the item so when you pick it up, it will appear in the last slot.

Item has to be in last slot or it will not work.
