This video shows how to disable the tech tree in Empyrion using a hex editor on the player file. This information was given out by the developers when the tech tree was implemented in pre-alpha 3.6. If you want to turn off the tech tree you can do it this way (quickly) instead of grinding on an alien core with a repair tool.
