Entering the IBM Compatible PC market in 1990, this Strategic Simulations Inc. and Westwood Associates title used the ability score and rules system from Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, the tabletop pencil and paper RPG.

This, in my opinion, is the closest thing to a true RPG in video game form you can get.
