Episode #36 - Centipede [PS1] (OLD REVIEW)
4Yet another attempted reboot of a classic arcade franchise with new-fangled 3d graphics. This one isn't quite as bad as the Pong remake and is slightly better than Frogger, making it, well, slightly better than slightly below average. It's the epitome of mediocrity overall yet is quite mixed across different aspects of the game.
The concept, graphics, and sound are all good. The game, for the most part, is entertaining -- albeit a bit simple. The real challenge is not so much the enemies and environmental obstacles -- it's the camera and controls. The controls are loose and the camera is very jerky, creating too many issues with performing precise movements. It's rather jarring, resulting in over- and under-steering of the ship frequently.
If you can tolerate the subpar controls, there's a good (not great) game underneath.
