Welcome to a new unamed series where I click random file in IDARCHIVE and review a map!

Today's map...

Escape From Wolfenstein

Alright, before we start this thing off. Forgive me for using a text to speech voice,
I really do not like using my own voice, and doing text in my editting software is a
pain, and I have to figure things out.

Before I even played this map, I found something off. This map, about Wolfenstein,
is dated 1994. If you happen to not know, Doom2 was made in 1995, and had secret levels
with some Wolfenstein textures and a new enemy. Meaning that this map is made with
Dooms textures. But even with all of that in mind, god this map is actually pretty good!

One thing that stricked me as interesting, is that the comments of the IDARCHIVE page
kept complaining about the design, and here's what I have to say.

One. There is a lot of grey inside of this map, but that isn't bad at all. You might
even say that it's themeatic, with how samey Wolfenstein is.

Two. This map isn't flat. There are stairs, platforms, dropoffs and windows to other
and a bit of an outside area, the map has a lot of diffrent heights which is appreciated
for it's time. Though there are times where it is a bit flat, but you still get some
diffrent shapes for the rooms.

Three. The layout is confusing a bit. But like with the textures, it's good in this
case. Wolfenstein was such a mazey, corridor to corridor shooter that left the player
confused. THe only thing I would have to say is that the exit is hidden behind a secret
BUT since it can be opened by monsters, there's a 50% chance you'll find it before
knowing that.

Over all, the design in this map is great for it's time, and still holds up a bit today

But what about the encounters? Well for the most part, you're just dealing with Imps,
Zombies, and shotgunners, with the occasional Cacodemon. The map isn't challanging at all
and most of the reason you'll be below 20 health is a shotgunner at point blank range
blasting your face with a shotgun. To be honest, this map could do with a bit more enemies.
The gameplay, while a bit too easy, isn't neciserally tedious, aside from the manditory secret

Escape from Wolfenstein is a short and sweet map, I would recomend it for a small little
time waster.
