Eternal Tombs is a new MMO that has been in development for the past 5 years by an indie team who set out to make an new MMO that is filled with events set up and ran by the Live Staff called the Tomb Masters. It looks like Eternal Tombs is coming along as we got a ton of gameplay updates and I'll be showing off all the exciting details from the gameplay today.
First we see the player enter a false wall where there is a secret marketplace where spells can be bought, and we see him head for a quest, surprisingly, the quests are voice acted, you will also notice there was no large exclamation mark over her head, which encourages talking to NPCs and leading to better immersion for this MMO.
The other thing I want to take note of is the minimal UI : The devs say they want less distraction to keep the players immersed and in the game world. They say this isn't their final UI they want to clean it up a bit and polish it and make it look a little fancier, but it's servicable as it is.
The dev says there are 30 zones in the world so far with more in the works, but already, Eternal Tombs is a very massive place : There are load times between zones at the time, but they are looking at a couple of solutions that might allow for seemless travel.
-Magic in Eternal Tombs is done from pulling magic from your surroundings or from magical items, not from summoning magic from within yourself : There is a druid-type class called the Chloromancer that pulls magic from nature for example.
-Eternal Tombs is a Gear focused game - Magic is built into gear : you can craft magic abilities into your gear and then you can cast it : Gear like this can be found as drops as well. They are deep into developing new weapons and gear, that is the focus of the development team right now. Spells can also come from potions or from all kinds of items.
-I also want to mention, There is still a lot of optimization to do to polish the game, so understand that this isn't a finished MMO as you are watching this gameplay
(shows off Chloromancer) You can see the chloromancer here summoning forth a fungal pet here, and while fighting he does a small flame attack, and then casts mushroom cloud that poisons the mob. Then later you can see that he has been blinded, and just like EverQuest, the screen goes black so that you the player are actually blinded to what is going on. Anyone that played EverQuest knows how terrifying this can be. While fighting this Zulgur Fiend, he uses an exploding poison cloud that has some really cool looking effects, especially when it explodes.
You can see the player harvesting for components before he shows off a poisonous pond, that will damage you from going in it, showing off some hazards in the environment. There is another spoell shown here where he summons bees on the enemy to help him defeat it.
I really liked this were-bear mob : absolutely awesome looking mob with cool animations, and you can see he is a tough mob requiring the player to continuously back away, and take notice of his death animation which I thought was a really nice touch.
He then approaches an old ruins that looks like it once was a temple of some sort and fights some awesome looking bat mobs, unfortunately he pulls 2 of them and they wipe the floor with him. This was good though to show off the difficulty.
After he dies, he makes his way back to the body : Because when you die in Eternal Tombs you body drops and you do lose experience. You can be res'ed which brings you back to the body and we can only assume that you lose less experience with high level resses.
The Tomb Master system is shown off for Eternal Tombs the upcoming MMO : Where we see environmental triggers : The GMs can drop these events anytime they want and some will be set off by certain things activated by the players automatically. This is the UI currently for the GMs to trigger events in the world. Here he shows how they have a list of pre-built events that can be dropped fast and quick : but they also have dynamic events where they have options to mix and match different things to happen. This is the differientiator that Eternal Tombs is going for : constant events to keep the world feeling fresh and alive and to encourage cooperation on the different servers. This also makes each server feel unique. They have built this system to be fluent and fast so the devs can constantly bring challenges to the players of this MMO. I think we can all admit that events in our MMORPG are really exciting and seeing it get this kind of attention is exciting.
