I'll be completely honest: Everhood didn't really work for me. The frequent similarities to Undertale served to remind of how much better a time I had with that game, and the characters and story didn't grab me the way they did with Undertale. The difficulty I was on (the second hardest) was probably too easy for me, with the majority of encounters not causing a single death, but the core gameplay wasn't enjoyable enough for me to want to replay the same segments.

It didn't help when the game started warping and messing with the perspective because, yes, it did make it harder, but mostly because it put more strain on my eyes. I was surprised they didn't go a more conventional and (dare I say) interesting route, like limiting the number of columns or making them go left to right.

The pacing was also less than ideal. You have the quest to get your arm back, and then you get a checklist of 30 items, and you're doing that for a few hours. It effectively slows the game down for you to revisit everywhere you've been, which I didn't enjoy.

Rereading the writeup, it sounds quite critical, but I don't think Everhood was a bad game, merely a mediocre game. I think it's great that some people have clearly identified with the game, but that's not me at all.
