Every time I go to donate... there's a problem.
You try and do something good, but then there's the bullshiat red tape. I worked in a hospital for 20 years and I'm all for blood safety, but I do know they screen blood before makes it out to the recipient. So... why the gate-keeping? What if I said I was knee deep in man ass or I have a tree trunk in mine? Would that exacerbate the deferral?
For an organization that spends what I feel is a ridiculous amount on advertising (I get the calls, the voicemails, the emails, the radio ads....) and nursing, at least they could do is add some basic intelligence to their phone apps and internal systems. Should ideally cross reference flagged questions on the day of questionnaire against their database and recommend a quick phone call to you, or an automatic reschedule to a date when you're once again eligible. From there they can explain how/why and prevent people from travelling great distances and wasting fuel to find out they are not eligible at that particular time.
Disappointed.
