Evil West Part 3 | Evil West Mission 3 | The First Spark | Full Walkthrough Gameplay Guide
In the third-person action/adventure game Evil West, players take on the role of Jesse Rentier, who looks like a linebacker, as he fights hordes of night creatures to save his family and country. On the surface, this appears to be a premise that could be filled to the brim with bloody fun. However, Evil West is unable to achieve greatness due, in part, to an excessive number of glitches and a repetitive nature that causes it to lag behind some of its peers in the industry.
Evil West's story is seriously uninteresting for a game that hints that Abraham Lincoln founded an underground organization that mass-produced enormous electric fists for its members to use in the hunt for the undead. The game effectively follows a straight line throughout its duration. The fact that Jesse is joined by Edgar Gravenor, his partner in crime, makes it possible to play multiplayer co-op, but it doesn't make the two gunmen feel like they are friends. Just like the story as a whole, Jesse and Edgar don't have many layers to work with. This is a shame because the game doesn't live up to its premise because it can't take big risks and make a crazy story. It just feels empty.
However, all is not lost because Evil West's supporting characters and its head vampires, who take a different approach to the usual bloodsuckers and have one of the big bad who is a young girl, contain some gems. Unfortunately, the game again falls into the trap of not living up to its potential when it comes to the same kinds of enemies that you have to shoot, pound, burn, and tear through. Even though the character designs can be seen in a pause menu, the details are lost due to graphical decisions that frequently wash scenes in overbearing hues that drown out any artistic choices. Far too frequently, you'll find yourself fighting the same vampires that look like lumps of flesh molded like clay.
Throughout your bloody journey, you may encounter the same enemies on a consistent basis, but Evil West provides you with a plethora of options for literally driving a stake through their hearts. The electric fist you have at your disposal, which can help you ricochet "ticks" around an environment or into well-placed explosives, is your go-to weapon as either Jesse or Edgar. Along with an electric shield that gives you the ability to teleport in front of opponents or drag them your way for Old-West Justice, you also get a lot of firearms to mix things up.
The third level of Evil West is called The First Spark. Jesse goes back to the Rentier Institute in this mission to see his father.
After the cutscene, you'll be in front of the Rentier mansion when you take control. The first half of this level consists primarily of cutscenes interspersed with free exploration.
Go inside the mansion. Neglect the "! marked door on your right, and instead explore the first floor for a while.
If you didn't watch the cutscene, you won't understand how you ended up in the burning mansion. The Zapper, a brand-new item that you just got, might also be confusing. You can use the Zapper Block, a parry-like mechanic that stops enemy attacks (L1/LB) and electrocutes them, allowing the special E-Combo melee attack to hit them. Use this strategy on the vessels in the room or simply defeat them using your usual melee combos.
Once the area is clear, you can exit through the wall's large opening to go outside. Another tutorial, this one on the Zapper Pull, will start here. You can bind an enemy and bring them directly to you by pressing the Block button and back/down simultaneously, but only if they are marked with the Zapper symbol. This is especially useful for capturing enemies that are attacking you from above and only applies to basic enemies like vessels. Crawl under the fallen girder behind the enemies in this area to practice the Zapper Pull.
Finally, to reach the quest marker and finish the level, enter the next room.
