Just in time for Halloween, I take a look at the history and evolution of SCOOBY-DOO AND MYSTERY INCORPORATED (MYSTERY INC.) - Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma - , the spooky creations of Hanna Barbera and Fred Silverman for the CBS Saturday Morning Cartoon block.
The original Scooby series – Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! was, according to Kevin Sandler, author of an upcoming book on the history of the series, “a strategic move in response to cultural shifts” and, as published by CNN “a reaction to the political turmoil at the time” eventually becoming a series that would grow and adapt over the decades.
I take a look at how the show and characters have evolved over 15 television series, 34 straight-to-home-media animated films, 5 live-action films and much, much more and how the Scooby Doo series has become one of the most beloved cartoon franchises of all time – having remained on television screens continuously for 50 years!
I discuss the most important changes in their design and personality and in the stylistic and narrative structures of their productions prevalent across 5 decades of series and movies.
