Evolving Video Game Franchises - Borderlands & Fortnite // The Inner Gamer ON
This discussion is all about the evolution of video game franchises. In one part, we've seen how over time a game franchise can evolve into something different than the way it started. Far Cry for example was a serious island shooter from Crytek. Over time it added some more action elements with over the top visuals to the point they're adding DLC about zombies, Mars and the Vietcong.
We then jump into pre-launch evolution with games like Borderlands and Fortnite. Borderlands was supposed to be a darker, more realistic looking game and what we got was a highly stylized experience that ended up benefiting it overall. Fortnite on the other hand began as a co-op game that added Battle Royale during it's early access phase after following the trends of the industry.
What are some games you recall evolving over time? Give us some examples in the comments below!
