15Riverview Insane Asylum is said to be one of Vancouver's most haunted locations. Some patients were subjected to treatments and therapies such as shock therapy, and “hydrotherapy”. Riverview, like other asylums at the time, was self-sustaining on its own farmland. Thy would use their patients for “therapeutic” labor. They reached their peak residency in 1955 with over 4,000 patients.
More than 1,085 bodies are buried at Riverview and not all these bodies are Riverview patients: Some had relatives buried alongside them and some bodies were of the hospital staff. Due to the unethical practices used in the early 20th century at Riverview, the halls are haunted by both patients and staff. Now a days it is used often by the film industry for movie production. But the crew often say they have ghostly experiences!
