Exploring the History and Real-Life Events Behind Call of Duty World War 2
The Allied operation at the Battle of Normandy, which began the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II, was known as Operation Overlord. With the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), the operation began (Operation Neptune). Prior to an amphibious attack involving more than 5,000 vessels, a 1,200-plane airborne assault took place. On June 6, about 160,000 soldiers crossed the English Channel, and by the end of August, more than two million Allied soldiers were in France.
.
The Invasion of Normandy by the Allies begins on June 6, 1944. On a landing ship, Daniels and the entire 1st Infantry Division are making their way toward the fortified Omaha beach. The machine gunner on Daniels' boat is shot in the head at one point, causing everyone on the boat to dive for cover. Turner tells the driver to accelerate fully so they can go to the shore and break the seawall as quickly as possible. The ramp is removed when the boat reaches the shore, but a destroyed allied boat rams into Daniels' boat and knocks him to the ground. Daniels escapes by falling over the side of the boat while the majority of his boatmates are killed by machine gun fire.
