Stevie & I went out to the Mojave Desert to explore the northern end of the town of Newberry Springs, CA, which has been buried by sand dunes. The rest of the town, while sparse, is fully operational & NOT a ghost town. Locals are lovely. We met a few, but didn't ask them to be on film. BOTH the county of San Bernardino's road crews and the people who chose to build houses in the Mojave River bed, are technically responsible for the sand problem, as there was already an abundance of sand present where the homes were built, AND the SB County road crews spent several decades dumping sand excavated elsewhere near this neighborhood, which added to the condition that allowed the desert high winds to blow that sand straight into the neighborhood at the north end of Newberry Springs. This created such sand problems for the residents on that end of town, that they eventually had to leave and abandon their homes there. Truly something out of a post-apocalyptic film.
