FA-18C Ground Strikes Gone Wrong in DCS World Mission

This is one of my FA-18C ground strikes gone wrong. This DCS World mission took an unexpected turn when we had to intercept a large flight of enemy aircraft inbound to attack our airfield at Ramat-David. This is a DCS World full mission video using in-cockpit video and the track file for exterior and action shots.

In this mission, I intended to perform ground strikes in the F-18 Hornet using HARMs and GPS guided-bombs. As we approached our first surface to air missile target, AWACS GCI alerted to several inbound SU-25T ground attack aircraft that were likely inbound for a ground strike on our base at Ramat-David. I fired a single AGM-88C HARM at the ground radar (which eventually hit and destroyed the target).

I was only the only aircraft in the sky and by far the closest to the incoming air attack at only 30NM. GCI was reporting an updated total of 5 or 6 SU-25T's. Against my better judgement (my air-to-air combat is far less than sub-par), I turned to engage and within a few minutes I was in the middle of a 5 v 1 air-to-air battle. Thankfully, I scored the first two kills with my only two AIM-120C AMRAAMs before the merge, dropping my odds of success slightly.

After the first two kills, I was merged with three enemy aircraft. Looking for my first gun kill, I was a little heavy on the trigger and blew through the gun ammo very quickly. After several minutes of offensive maneuvering, defense maneuvering, battling the sun glare and trying to find them visually and on radar, I was able to get into a firing position for my two remaining AIM-9X Sidewinders. Two more kills were tallied and I bugged out for home bingo on fuel and with an absolutely clean aircraft. I didn't even have 1 round for the gun left when I touched down back at Ramat-David.
