Facial & Nasal Index Variations in Western Maharashtrian Males β A Forensic Anthropometry Study
Facial & Nasal Index Variations in Western Maharashtrian Males β A Forensic Anthropometry Study
π About the Study:
This observational study examines the facial index and nasal index of young male students (ages 18β20) from Western Maharashtra (Sangli, Kolhapur, Islampur, Karad, Satara). These indices are crucial in forensic investigations, racial classification, and reconstructive surgery. The research follows Farkas L.G.βs anthropometric guidelines, using digital Vernier calipers for precise measurements.
π Key Findings:
β
Facial Index:
Mean Value: 89.51 (SD Β±4.26)
Dominant Face Type: Leptoprosopic (46.73%) (long & narrow face)
Rarest Face Type: Hypereuriprosopic (0.19%) (very broad face)
β
Nasal Index:
Mean Value: 72.84 (SD Β±6.86)
Dominant Nose Type: Mesorrhine (63.74%) (medium-width nose)
π Methodology:
Sample Size: 535 male students
Tools: Digital Vernier Caliper (0.01mm accuracy)
Statistical Analysis: R software (v3.5)
Reference: Farkas L.G., "Anthropometric Facial Proportions in Medicine"
π― Applications:
Forensic Science: Helps in racial & ethnic identification
Plastic Surgery: Guides facial reconstructive procedures
Anthropological Research: Documents regional facial variations
π Further Research Needed:
While this study highlights trends in Western Maharashtrian males, more extensive studies are required to establish broader facial anthropometric databases for diverse populations.
