Based on the video game and the lost trilogy it was supposed to represent.
Advent Rising is unfortunately a clear case of ambitious storytelling being stymied by technical setbacks. But still the story has so much potential I want to see it come back.

Advent Rising has an intriguing hook. Alien 'Seekers' arrive in force to brutally cleanse the universe of its most powerful species, a species revered as a god by other races, rumored to be capable of anything through sheer power of will.
The hook? This species is US.
Humans are actually the deity race, and as one of the last your character Gideon Whyeth finds himself the leader of a rival alien civilization against the Seekers in all out war. In the midst of his journey and battles he learns to slow time, destroy objects by gesturing at them, and even more godly abilities as he unlocks the full potential of his kind.
The dialogue was written by Orson Scott Card which...doesn't work in my opinion. With the scope of a story like this you'd hope it would take itself a little seriously but all the characters sound so camp it becomes irritating. However its a testament to the potential of the story that it still makes you regret what might have been and hope in the future someone tries again.
