However, PC users who utilize Steam as a gaming platform won't be able to purchase Far Cry 6, though the game will still be available to order on PC through other means.
The gameplay reveal for Far Cry 6 introduces players to a surprising amount of freedom in terms of playstyle flexibility, allowing for various forms of approach unique mechanics in combat. Currently, Far Cry 6 is scheduled to release in October 2021 across various consoles including PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Either way, Far Cry 6 is likely to make an appearance in some form at the expo.
In 2020, preorders went live for Far Cry 6, and many fans were quick to notice that the game wasn't available through Steam or the Microsoft Store - instead, it could be purchased through either the Epic Games Store or Uplay. Since then, the game has been delayed, with the release moving from early 2021 to late 2021. In that timeframe both Uplay and Ubisoft's subscription service, Uplay+, were rebranded. Currently, preorders for Far Cry 6 on Ubisoft's site feature both the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store as the only purchase options available for PC, though there is also the option of a monthly subscription to Ubisoft+.
Far Cry 6 isn't the only recent Ubisoft game to skip over Steam entirely. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion have all been notably absent from the platform. Ubisoft's aversion to Steam likely comes as a result of its partnership with Epic, which began in 2019 with Tom Clancy's The Division 2. It seems that most Ubisoft game releases are now exclusive to the Epic Games Launcher and the Ubisoft Store because of this. Although PC players won't be able to use Steam to obtain Far Cry 6, the other purchasing options at least give them the opportunity to experience the highly anticipated game.
