A change of pace for my last video of this week. I wanted something simple for this, minimal edits, no fancy production, ...and not a lot of practice haha. I conceived of this whole finale event probably over a year ago, and at the time, I was certain this would be my last upload ever on the channel. I was feeling really burnt out and really lacked the motivation to work. On top of that, a lot of irl happenings and stressors really made it hard for me to dedicate a lot of time to making music. I was really ready to just call it quits and move on from all of this. I felt this would be a really poignant finale, just a raw irl video of me playing a song called "Farewell" and then just walking off into the metaphorical sunset, it was a perfect plan!
However, spending the last... seven or so months? revisiting all of the Super Mario RPG and Superstar Saga tracks kinda gave me a tiny spark of passion. It was nice hearing all of this music I had poured myself into again. The Super Mario RPG remake announcement also played somewhat of a big role in my motivation as well! Seeing everyone's reactions to the remake really made me see how much this game meant to so many people! And people flooded to my channel and into my comments to celebrate as well! It was really awesome to see. Admittedly, the announcement did give me a bit of anxiety too, as I really felt the need to finish my re-remasters before the official remixes came out so they wouldn't be obsolete before I even finished them! I said this in a previous video description, but I do wish I had finished sooner... but I'm glad I finished before the remake release regardless! Anyway, working on this stuff reminded me that while indeed stressful, just dissecting all this music that I love to this degree can be fun as well!
All that to say, I don't think I'm going to let go of this channel after all. So this "farewell" video does lose a bit of its impact in that sense... Although my next new orchestration upload is probably still a ways off. I think I'm going to switch to REAPER as my main hub for making music and ditch Podium Free once and for all. So it may take a while for anything new from me as I get accustomed to a new workflow! But I do, and did always, have a couple ideas for future videos past these uploads. I don't think I'll ever reach the height of video upload frequency that I had when I first started in 2015, especially since my process has gotten much more complex since then! And I don't think I'll tackle another full OST project again, for a while at least. Although if I did, I do admit I have a couple of ideas for that as well! So any future uploads I do will probably be pretty sporadic, although as of the last couple years, that's pretty much the norm anyway. Maybe at least one upload a year would be a good goal to shoot for. But no promises lol!
Regardless of my moment-to-moment feelings about all this... I just hope that you all know that I deeply appreciate you! Everybody who has watched my videos, listened to my music, left nice comments, liked and subscribed... those are really the things that kept me going in the end. At the time of writing this, I'm sitting at 3030 subscribers and over 2.5 million views. For me, that is more than I could have ever asked for! As someone who really was just doing this as a hobby, this is much more love and attention than I ever expected! I've noticed all the repeat commenters from across my channel's history, and I've even made some pretty close friendships thanks to this channel! So it was really all worth it in the end. With my deepest sincerity, thank you so much. 💜
I would also be remiss to neglect mentioning the person irl who has really supported me through all this, @BroadwayBacon. I couldn't have made it this far without you by my side. 💜
For those of you who have read this far, thank you for reading my ramblings! Since I may be gone from this channel for a while, here are some other places you can check out what I'm up to or keep in contact:
I'm in a video game music inspired/video game cover band called OverPowered. You can find us at @overpoweredband or https://overpowered.band/
I also have a Discord server at https://discord.gg/cz9eXUZYr4
It's quite old and needs some cleaning up... if people start joining again I'll work on that! I'm also usually not that active on Discord, but it is the best place to reach me.
Anyway, the character limit is getting pretty close now lol. As always, whether you've been here from the beginning, or you're new to the channel, thank you so much for being here!
See you again sometime!
