In August of 2016, Bitfinex reported a security breach and was forced to halt all trades, withdrawals, and deposits. They put out a statement saying that many of their users had had their Bitcoin stolen. The company then reported this to law enforcement and have been working with the Justice Department ever since to have the Bitcoin reclaimed.
