In the second official trailer for Fences, former star baseball player Troy (Denzel Washington) looks at Rose (Viola Davis) and explains to a neighbor that when he first met her, he latched on to her. He says, "I told her, 'Baby, I don't want to marry. I just want to be your man.'"

As the trailer continues, we meet the couple's son Cory (Jovan Adepo). Troy wants Cory to help him build a fence, and we learn that Cory has been recruited by a college football team. However, in the eyes of Troy, that is a futile opportunity. We see father and son exchange hard words, catch a glimpse of Troy and Rose's dynamic and see how a truth that Troy has withheld threatens to unsettle their relationship. As the intensely dramatic trailer closes, a voiceover says, "Some people build fences to keep other people out, and other people build fences to keep people in."
