Part 9. This game is awesome and a great follow up to Remake. At the end of Remake I thought they were implying that they were going to completely change the story, what with defying fate and all that, and they absolutely knocked the ball out of the park. Sure there isn't much in overall story progression and that's certainly stretched out, but the character development is fantastic. The combat is improved and a lot snappier than Remake as well. And there are a bunch of new materia to fool around with. The areas you can explore are huge and kind of filled with mindless stuff. Chadley has you exploring the map for simple fights that will unlock more fights for better materia and accessories. It's cool for a little while but does feel repetitive and bloat like after a while. The towns are a blast to explore and filled with personality. The side quests are adorable, but I do wish they carried you around the world map a bit more. Maybe even a few more. Yeah, there are a bunch of mini games, but honestly I prefer that kind of variety over the repetitive VR and Colosseum missions any day. They at least offer a break from combat and most are extremely easy to complete. I did struggle with a few and probably raged a bit. Queens Blood was a nice card game distraction and I loved the more puzzle oriented challenges for those. I barely edited my deck throughout the playthrough and the only time I put in some real thought was the final match and the puzzles. The bosses are a ton of fun and do offer some real challenge for just a normal playthrough. Some of the optional bosses like the summons and the Gilgamesh challenges are a real rough time if you do them early. The final boss is also insanely epic. The best the series has offered so far. The music is also a delight with new scores and arrangements of previous tracks. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
