Final Fantasy 7 - Walkthrough - Part 1 - The 1st Reactor Mission, Sector 7
202:00 - After the intro, you will gain control of Cloud, click on the two knocked-down guards to pick up two potions then head to the other side of the platform where you will face your first battle. Just keep attacking to make short work of these enemies. Follow the other characters out and catch up with them outside the reactor.
03:00 - You will get the chance to rename Cloud and Barret if you like. After the dialogue, follow the others and head north into the main building. Follow the others across the walkway and head north when the path splits. Most of the random battles have been edited out of this guide but you can get by with attacking for now.
05:20 - Barret will join the party, then speak with Biggs to open the first door, and then Jessie to open the second. Head down to the southern room and open the chest for a Phoenix Down. Head back north and speak to Jessie to open the elevator doors.
6:10 - Press the button in the elevator and follow Jessie out when it stops. Follow Jessie downstairs and go through the door at the bottom. In the next screen, Walk over to Jessie for a tutorial on how to use the ladders. Pick up the blue item on the ground which is a Potion. Climb down the second ladder, the next and walk along the pipes to the next screen.
07:57 - Make your way to the next ladder and head down. You can save your game at the save point here before the first boss of the game. Open the game menu and select "Order". Click on Barret twice to move him to the back row. Since Barret uses a long-range weapon, he can attack enemies for the same damage, while only receiving half the damage from their physical attacks. While in the menu also make sure Cloud has the Lightning materia equipped. Now run across the walkway to the next screen.
08:15 - Pick up the green item on the ground which is Restore materia (when equipped this will cast Cure on a party member) then click on the valve at the bottom of the screen to start the first boss battle.
09:20 - The first boss of the game - Guard Scorpion is weak against Lightning so have Cloud attack with Lightning magic and Barret using his standard attack. It follows a set attack pattern. It will first use Search Scope, then will attack regularly, perform another Search Scope, attack regularly again then raise its tail. If you attack it while the tail is raised it will use its powerful Tail Laser attack so don't attack until it lowers its tail. Attack while the tail is down and use a potion to heal when necessary. After the battle, you will get the Assault Gun weapon for Barret.
12:20 - Open the menu and equip Barret with the Assault Gun. You now have 10 minutes to go back the way you came to get out before the reactor blows up. Backtrack your way to the screen where you left Jessie. Walk over and speak with her to free her foot then return to the elevator and press the button.
15:48 - Head out and speak with Jessie, then Biggs to get back through the doors and head out of the reactor.
17:25 - After the scenes, make your way up the stairs. Speak with the flower girl you can give different responses that will affect a scene later in the game. Being nice has a positive influence on the character. Follow her to the next screen.
18:17 - Head south and pick up the Potion on the ground to the left, then continue south. Shinra Guards will attack but you get the choice: Fight or Run. Either way, you'll end up on the train.
23:40 - Follow Jessie and jump over the crates. In the train cabin, talk to Jessie again then with Barret afterwards.
29:40 - When you get off the train, follow the team to the hideout. In the next screen, you can talk to the guy in the upper left corner and save your game. Head to the left to get to the next area. You can explore the area when ready to continue, talk to Barret and head inside.
33:00 - You will meet Cloud's childhood friend Tifa, again how nice you are will have a positive influence on the character. Try to head out and Barret will enter. Talk to Tifa, then head down. After the multiple scenes, you will receive your pay from Barret of 1500 Gil.
43:45 - In the morning, head up and talk to Tifa and Barret. You can listen to a Materia Tutorial if you are new to the game. Exit Seventh Heaven and go inside the building on the lower right. Speak with the weapon shop owner, buy 3 Iron Bangles and equip them on all your party members.
48:25 - Head to the second floor and enter The Beginner's Hall. Talk to the various people for different tutorials. Make sure you pick up the blue All Materia on the right, as well as the Ether in the chest that drops down.
49:44 - Head out and into the building on the lower left, which is the local Item and Materia store. Buy a Fire Materia here and any healing items you want.
50:35 - Now head out and back towards the train station to continue the game. On the way out you can head into the house to the north. This is the home of Johnny, a childhood friend of Tifa and Cloud.
