So, we've beaten The Emperor (Mateus) by Toad-ing him up, right! Right? The Dark Knight, not Batman, would like a word at first but then we have a "but wait there's more," moment. Good times.

My no-map attempt after playing and beating this again on the NES without intentionally exploiting the leveling shortcuts in the game.

First-timers, I do recommend playing this game with a map. Actually, play the PSP or Pixel Remaster versions instead.
