Final Fantasy IX is a role-playing video game released by the Japanese company Squaresoft in 2000. This is the ninth installment of the game and the final chapter of the saga for the PlayStation console. This time, Squaresoft prepared a chapter that sought to return to the origins of the saga, showing us a classic world somewhere between the medieval and the fantastical. Hironobu Sakaguchi was particularly involved in this installment and even declared that this chapter was exactly how he would have liked the older Final Fantasy games to be, introducing a multitude of constant homages and nods, as well as a spiritual return to the more classic class and combat system.
As before, Yoshitaka Amano was entirely in charge of the character design and concept, although the final character designs were later adapted by Toshiyuki Itahana.
More than a decade after its release, on December 31, 2015, Square Enix announced that remastered versions would be coming to Windows, Android, and iOS in 2016.
At Sony's Tokyo Game Show 2017 conference, it was officially announced that the title would be coming to the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 on September 19, 2017, featuring the PlayStation 4's signature trophy system, user avatars, and a dynamic background theme.
On June 21, 2021, it was announced that Final Fantasy IX would be adapted into an animated series produced by Square Enix and Cyber Group Studios.
