Final Fantasy NES - Prelude / Main Theme
The first "JRPG", let alone RPG of any sort, that I ever played as a kid, outside of Sorcerian and a couple other old PC games, was FF1 on my Nintendo Entertainment System. By today's standards, it's a bit of a rough ride, with tons of pretty much mandatory grinding, and a low amount of story, or clues on where to go. It's about as "Old School" as you can get.
But it's also a fantastic game, that I have a great deal of nostalgia for. AND, while it doesn't hold a candle to the wonderful soundtracks on the SNES FF titles, it also happens to have some seriously great, underrated music! I have always personally loved this, what I consider the "Main Final Fantasy" theme of the series. I loved when it played during the credits of FFIV and FFVI on SNES. And while it's shorter and more abrupt here, it's still just as epic when you first cross that bridge, and this music cues while your TRUE quest begins.
This classic piece, as with most classic Final Fantasy tunes, was originally conceived and composed by the great Nobuo Uematsu.
