Final Fantasy VIII Console Model Comparison - Loading Screens
Segment: Loading 60 Screens (Squall's room)
Consoles used: SCPH-30001, SCPH-75001, SCPH-90001
Controller used: Kiwami Fujiwork (7/15/30Hz)
The current standard for Real Time Attack Speedruns of Final Fantasy VIII at the making of this video is the use of the SCPH-90001 PS2 Slim console on the Fast Disc Speed. While there is a compelling argument for this being that it has the latest model of drivers available that Sony made for Playstation 2 consoles, there is a lot that remains to be seen as to what is definitively the fastest console to play Final Fantasy VIII on. It is my intention in making this comparison and future ones to advance the knowledge and state of the speedrun.
Comments on this segment: I am not really sure of the effectiveness of testing this. Never in a speedrun attempt of FF8 is Squall's room (or any other screen for that matter) consecutively entered and exited. Though this is just another way to have more data on different consoles. A shortcoming in this test is that over doing it multiple times with each console, there is variation in loading speeds. One set of attempts yielded the SCPH-75001 as being faster than the SCPH-90001 model. Another attempt yielded the SCPH-30001 as being faster than the SCPH-90001. And another yet yielded similar results to this though the SCPH-30001 was slightly slower. Despite these problems with this test, I am still confident that collecting data like this can only be beneficial.
