Final Fantasy XIII-2 - Ruined Hometown ft. Sabrina Valenzuela (Vocals, Violin, & Guitar) || SPG
498Even though the Final Fantasy XIII franchise was critically panned, I still enjoyed playing it, especially XIII-2. I beat both XIII and XIII-2, but I just stopped playing "Lightning Returns" after spending just a few hours with it. Gameplay aside though, the music of the XIII trilogy is a big departure from the instrumental norm of the main Final Fantasy games as it incorporates a huge chunk of vocal and lyrical works in its soundtrack.
One of the most ethereal songs is "Ruined Hometown" from XIII-2, which plays during your visit in Oerba, the original hometown of Vanille and Fang. The beautiful lyrics actually foretell the struggles and doubts of Serah & Noel as they search for answers, and I just love the simple melody.
It has both a regular "ballad" version and a "dance" version aka the "Aggressive Mix" which is essentially the same soaring melody but with a difference in rhythmic arrangement. For this arrangement, I combined both versions, starting with the normal tempo version, and segueing to the "aggressive" version by the 2nd half.
In this arrangement, I collaborate with the lovely and talented Sabrina Valenzuela, whose voice is just really a perfect fit for this song.
For the video editing, I was actually inspired by the spherical Crystarium patterns from Final Fantasy XIII, and also the circular motifs of the Historia Crux in XIII-2. I made sure that I reflected those design patterns in the video as well, and I believe I came a little close.
