Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light Film's Web Video Streamed
The official YouTube channel for the Final Fantasy XIV game began streaming two commercials on Sunday for the live-action Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light (Final Fantasy XIV: Hikari no Otōsan) film remake.
The film will open in Japan on June 21.
The film will star Kentarō Sakaguchi as the son Akio, and Kōarō Yoshida as Akio's father. Other cast members include Yui Sakuma as Akio's coworker, Maika Yamamoto as Akio's younger sister, Ryūta Satō as Akio's senior at work, and Naomi Zaizen as Akio's mother. Voice actors for the film's game parts include Yoshino Nanjō, Minako Kotobuki, and Aoi Yūki.
The film will feature a returning staff. Teruo Noguchi (Secret Love, Avatar) is directing the film, and Kiyoshi Yamamoto (AKB Horror Night Adrenalin no Yoru, Tokyo Toybox films) is directing the game parts. Kōta Fukihara (live-action Yowamushi Pedal series, live-action Tensai Bakabon ~ Kazoku no Kizuna series) is writing the scripts. GLAY are performing the film's theme song "Colors," and The Beat Garden are performing an insert song titled "Start Button."
The previous Final Fantasy XIV Dad of Light miniseries premiered in Japan in April 2017, and also streamed on Netflix. Netflix added the series in the United States in September 2017.
Yūdai Chiba starred in the original series, and the now-late Ren Ōsugi co-starred as the father. Other cast members included Fumika Baba, Yoshihiko Hakamada, Yoshino Nanjō, Minako Kotobuki, Aoi Yūki, and Mako Ishino.
The two live-action projects are inspired by Ichigeki Kakusatsu SS Nikki's blog based on real-life experiences. The blog chronicles a father who is over 60, and his son as they play the Final Fantasy XIV game together. The projects follow both men as the game brings them closer together while each of them is also holding onto a secret.
