Info:
Execute a Precision Dodge 3 times while charging a single Megaflare (excluding battles in the Hall of Virtue).
Megaflare is unlocked at the start of Main Quest 52: Things Fall Apart. Equip the Bahamut Eikon (Turquoise abilities). You can press :CIRCLE: to begin charging a Megaflare. This move is actually called “Wings of Light” in the ability menu. It will give you wings and you fly around until the gauge in the top left corner fills up.
For this trophy you must first upgrade the “Wings of Light” ability for 750 Ability Points. This lifts the Megaflare Limit from Level 2 to Level 4. This is mandatory for the trophy because each successful dodge increases it by 1 Level, and once you hit Level 4 it stops charging (no longer counts dodges once you reach Level 4). Since the unupgraded version only allows Megaflare Level 2 it would only count 2 Dodges until fully charged. So make sure you upgrade it.
Now for the trophy, do the following:
Recommended Location for this is Rosaria - Three Reeds. Directly west of this fast travel obelisk is a bull-like enemy called “Bighorn”. This enemy works fine for the trophy.
Approach the Bighorn. Just a moment before it does its first attack press :CIRCLE: to enter Megaflare Charge mode (you get wings and the gauge in top left fills up). Time this as close to the first attack as possible. If you activate Megaflare charging too early it will already fill up the gauge, thus reducing the time window you have for 3 dodges.
Press :R1: to precision-dodge 3 attacks in a row BEFORE you reach Megaflare Level 4. When it hits max level it stops charging and dodges no longer count! If done correctly it will say “Megaflare Dodge” on the right side of the screen. You must dodge at the same time the enemy is about to hit you, if you dodge too early it won’t count as a precision dodge (you get a special animation when you do it correctly).
If you do 3 Megaflare Dodges in a row, while the gauge is charging from Level 0 to Level 4 (before it’s filled up), the trophy will unlock. If the gauge reaches Level 4 before your third dodge, it will stop counting. If you need a retry, fast travel back to the Three Reeds obelisk and repeat.
The important thing here in the trophy description is “while charging“. When you hit Megaflare Level 4 it’s no longer charging, hence no longer counts dodges. What makes this tricky is that every dodge increases the gauge by +1 and it also fills passively so you have actually very little time. If you miss a dodge you will run out of time before your Megaflare reaches Level 4. The good thing is that the Bighorn enemy uses very slow attacks and dodges are easy to time. If you do a non-perfect dodge that doesn’t display the “Megaflare Dodge” it doesn’t count. Only when it shows Megaflare Dodge it will have counted. You do not need to activate the Megaflare for the trophy to unlock. It pops immediately after the third dodge.
