Final Fight CD, 1993 Capcom (20 From Sega/Mega CD #6)
The amazing soundtrack is the biggest plus for this port of the Capcom arcade smash of 1989, but there is also a very cool "Time Attack" mode and a useful rapid-fire trick, combining to make this the ultimate port of FINAL FIGHT (at least for its time). Choose one or two of the fighters Haggar, Cody or Guy and wreak havoc on the Mad Gear gang that kidnapped Haggar's daughter Jessica. Cody is Jessica's boyfriend and Guy's friend, so they also have vested interest. Each character has a combination attack when wailing on the attack button in front of an enemy, an attack when jumping at an enemy and pressing down and the attack button, at least one grapple move when they grab an enemy, and a special attack when pressing jump and attack buttons together (which drains a teeny bit off your enemy meter if it connects with an enemy). Each character also has a little something that makes them more useful in certain situations: Haggar, being a former pro wrestler, has wrestling moves that can REALLY put the hurt on an enemy when he grabs them (that jumping piledriver is a wow!) and he's best with swinging the pipes at enemies; Cody can repeatedly stab with a knife instead of just chuck it like the other protagonists; and Guy is fastest with the swords, and he also has a wall-kick move that the others do not. I always prefer Haggar's raw power even though he is the slowest. He can put an end to boss fights much quicker than the other characters, but Guy does have blazing speed with his fists and can be better when surrounded, if you alternate your punches left and right. Make good use of the food items often found in breakable objects; save it until you need it (it won't disappear until you scroll it off the screen). A total of 4 continues are given in this game, and I think they might be "shared" by both players if you have 2 fighters at once. Watch out-- the players can hurt each other! If you are a Sega CD collector, you simply MUST have this game. Stay cool everyone-- it's getting hot out there! See you sometime hopefully somewhat soon for game #5.
