Isaac Clarke crashes through a window from his descent after the fight with The Tormenter and ends up in the Unitologist district of the Cassini Towers from which he entered the Titan Church. Isaac now has no plans whatsoever, until he receives a video call from Stross talking about destroying the Marker that they both built; while telling Isaac about steps involving crawling into a "dark machine". He then tells Isaac that the Marker is in the Government Sector. Isaac asks Stross to make his way to the transport hub which he agrees to. Isaac makes his way through the Sprawl Daycare Center where he encounters his first Enhanced Slashers. Also, he encounters crawlers for the first time. Shortly before he leaves the Daycare Center, Ellie contacts Isaac holding Stross at gunpoint. Isaac asks Ellie to bring him to the transport hub. Then Isaac fights a Brute, and then he heads to the Solar Array.

Dead Space 2 is a science-fiction-themed survival horror video game in which players take on the role of engineer Isaac Clarke, controlling him from a third-person perspective through a narrative campaign split into fifteen levels. Players navigate the Sprawl space station completing narrative-based missions, solving puzzles within the environment, and fighting monsters dubbed Necromorphs. Progress is saved both manually at stations and at checkpoints in the level. Once the game is completed, New Game Plus allows players to carry over all current items and equipment into a new campaign. There are four difficulty levels unlocked at the game's start; Casual, Normal, Survivalist, Zealot. A fifth difficulty level, Hard Core, is unlocked after the first playthrough; Hard Core restarts the player from their last save with each death and only allows three saves across the campaign.
Dead Space 2 takes place in the year 2511, three years after the events of Dead Space. The action takes place on the Sprawl, a space station built in the remains of Saturn's moon Titan in a period where humanity survived near-extinction due to resource depletion by mining other planets.
