We recruit two new playable female units on this map! Isn't that a reason for excitement?

Nyx usually causes the Avatar to take a different path from the rest of the party, but having a Dark Flier with 8 mov that can fly over forest tiles enables us to recruit Nyx right away, which offers us some really big advantages in terms of how we press on in this map.

Nyx is our first tome user. IS tried to nerf the dark mages in this one after Awakening, preventing Nosferatu tomes from doubling or even proccing skills / crits. Though dark mages have low base speed, Nyx is quite fast and the obvious reclass to Dark Flier actually makes her absurdly fast and capable of doubling some of the otherwise undoublable enemy types. No luck with having good physical durability however, and even a Dark Knight promotion just shows trying to have some semblance of survivability is a lost cause. Nyx is a fine example of a glass cannon.

The other character is Azura. As a dancer, it's easy to see how she will become a crucial unit on this playthrough. With some of the new logistical gimmicks introduced in Fates (namely the Cavalier skill Shelter), Azura gets to be incredibly potent in her role as a master turn-shaver. Like most known dancers, she's very frail, and though her strength growth is very high, her weapon ranks leave her unable to fight back for experience. Think Feena from New Mystery in this regard, basically.

Azura starts so far away from the party that she doesn't contribute to the clear in any meaningful way (other than dancing Elise for a little more exp on the last turn), though her retrieving a Bronze Naginata (a 2nd one since Mozu joined with the same weapon) with her Chest Key gives us an accurate lance to use.

I rely on overlevelled MU as my main form of offence here. If I fail to ORKO those spear fighters, the Seal Defence skill will make any attempt at survival futile as -6 spd spells out failure even with an Avatar as bulky as mine is. MU eats all the important tonics (str/spd/def) to stay alive and consistently ORKO, OHKOing the Samurai with a forged Bronze Lance after a strength proc (55%).

I get lucky with connecting inaccurate attacks on the boss (the 30% avoid bonus on throne/gate terrain is back in Fates, and it makes a lot of bosses infuriating) and the boss is dead by turn 4. I can technically seize right there and then, but there's still the Rescue chain to open. Rescue now has a range of 10 regardless of its user's magic stat and is as helpful as ever. Without the staff, the map can be unreliably 4-turned otherwise. The 5-turn is very reliable however, though MU will need to switch to the Yato to double the Myrm in case strength doesn't proc - I do want to work on lance rank for Javelin access however.

The boss is not only evasive but also hard to double, hurt and survive attacks from. Many seemingly proficient members of the party cannot dent him at all. Dread Fighter Mozu is invaluable as MU's pair-up bot here, with +2 str/spd giving Avatar just the offence she needs.

The abundance of bow users in the castle threatens our sole Dark Falcon, Effie, but through positioning and correct exploitation of the player phase they can be eliminated or blocked in their tracks when attempting to snipe Effie. Hoshido bow users are, surprisingly, the enemies with the highest power in the game, beating even axe users. There was a conscious effort to make them an appealing choice and a threatening enemy, Takumi being the most vivid testament to that.

Azura can technically pass her Chest Key (which now disappear after the chapter is over) to somebody who will open the chest with Rescue, but I field Silas paired up with Niles so that they'd open the chest while letting our girls an extra action on the final turn. There isn't much trouble keeping them away from combat since MU does a bulk of the fighting.

Killing the boss nets us a Heart Seal. With Jakob not used in this run, Camilla and Selena, both joining in the next map, are the top candidates for the item. But that's a story for another video!
