Didn't think I'd continue this, but uploading those videos and talking about it with others gave me the itch to return to the run and do the wretched 13x defend map.
Which gets me to the next point, ever since I bought a new PC, I haven't been able to record with VBA-rerecording (which is the version I need when I play Fire Emblem). The moment I try to Record AVI, the program crashes and seems to do so on every version of the game. So far the solution for getting around that have all been to some extent impractical and strongly discourage me from recording anything FE LTC-based on GBA until I manage to solve the issues somehow. No luck there yet, so maybe somebody reading this could help me out - why could VBA-rr crash when Recording AVI?
Since I finalised this strategy up to the last turn however, I just had to record it somehow, so Camtasia Studio provided some help. The audio was recorded through Stereo Mix for the first time in 6 years on my YouTube channel, because my old computer had no Stereo Mix support. How is the Stereo Mix now that I finally have it again? ...Loud as you can hear yourself.
Anyway, this is a defend map that lasts for quite a while that you don't get to speed up in any way. Defending isn't particularly difficult even with the lack of Oswin, Hector and Marcus, the vanilla tanks, with Vaida's 13 def being somewhat negated by the nomads' arrows, but what we're interested in is maximising experience and quality levelups for the units that matter.
As usual, we want to get levels for Athos (who's already a bit overlevelled and growing very slowly; his Fire tome is about to break and we can't buy more until next map), Farina, Vaida, Nino. We want both of the earlygame fliers to be in good shape - Vaida wants as much speed as she can get and her strength also isn't exactly that high at base. Nino is the one character I leave near the fort bandits down south where she eats them for several yummy levels. As my future Warper, she needs to fight well and not die. I keep her in critical HP so that the enemies don't go for my other guys in range. Her risk of death is moderate against the more accurate nomad types, but bearable and didn't interfere with the rest of the strategy much.
Farina gets fed the bosskill and has two nice levelups. Farina has a risk of actually ending up with a lower practical attack speed compared to Vaida since her con is so low she loses -6 AS from Javelins. However, she has the Aid to carry heavier units, which Vaida lacks (much like Miledy does in FE6), and the lance rank for Killer Lance usage. I'd say Farina is the unit to invest into even if Vaida is also a worthwhile investment. And then there's Heath and Isadora joining a couple maps later, so I gotta decide how to split experience between Isadora and all those earlygame fliers...
Should be a lot of fun when I'm able to go back to the run without the AVI recorder crashing the emulator.
