FIRST LOOK | Lacuna Passage Gamplay E1
LACUNA PASSAGE
You wake in an landing pod, check your equipment, and venture out onto the red Martian soil in search of a nearby habitat. With 25 square miles of the Red Planet to explore and survive, you must gather resources from randomized points-of-interest, supply caches, and other habitats in order to continue your mission. But survival is more than just tracking status bars. Maintaining your life-support equipment is just as important as maintaining your health. Lacuna Passage’s Survival Sandbox will allow you to test drive the core game mechanics in Steam Early Access ahead of the upcoming Story Mode.

MORE ABOUT LACUNA PASSAGE
History
Getting Started
Lacuna Passage was originally inspired by the successful landing of the Curiosity rover on Mars in August 2012. At first, the team relied on several volunteer contributors to build a simple proof of concept, but the game's development quickly captured the attention of gamers and space enthusiasts around the world. Lacuna Passage raised over $54,000 on Kickstarter in July of 2013 and was soon approved through Steam Greenlight.
Building On Our Promise
Random Seed Games became a full time team consisting of Tyler Owen, the creator of the project, and Spencer Owen, his brother and lead artist. Around this time the Steam Early Access program was launched by Valve and the team decided it would be a great testing ground for the exploration and survival mechanics. A new sprawling and randomized Mars experience called the Survival Sandbox became the focus of development.
The Future
The team has several updates planned for the Survival Sandbox including ideas that will be incorporated based on player feedback. And eventually the full release will be accompanied by the addition of Story Mode which will follow the harrowing tale of Jessica Rainer, the only survivor of the second manned mission to Mars. Players will need to follow an interplanetary trail of breadcrumbs in order to discover the fate of the previous Hermes mission, and hopefully find rescue.
