"Transmogrify is a 2D sci-fi platformer where you solve puzzles, explore a mysterious facility, and encounter strange monsters.
Need to climb to a higher area? Shoot an enemy that turns into an ice block and use him as a stepping-stool. Want to cross a huge gap between platforms? No problem- just turn that flying enemy into a cloud and hop across. Transmogrify rewards creative thinking - there are often multiple ways to solve a puzzle using the objects and enemies to your advantage.
Adventurous players can explore some of the more dangerous rooms and search for hidden items, while players that prefer the thrill of the high score can practice for the best completion times and other categories.
Transmogrify burst to life from a game jam with the theme of "unconventional weapon". We wanted to create an experience where, instead of just rushing forward and shooting everything in your path, the enemies themselves mattered, and your decisions were vital to your success.
The prototype version of the game that emerged from that weekend was simple and rough around the edges, but we realized there was a unique and fun game lurking beneath the surface that fans of challenging platformers would love and appreciate.
Inspirations for this game that we love are Portal and Mega Man, as well as films such as Alien, Resident Evil, and Jurassic Park. Transmogrify is developed with Godot, an open-source game engine with great developers and a great community.
The name for the game was inspired by Calvin and Hobbes, and Calvin's "transmogrifier" cardboard box that turned him into different creatures."
